April 17 – For over a decade our rally cry has been “No babies, no babies, no babies … ” but now we find ourselves chanting an exciting variation as we try to cajole little Ashton out of his hiding spot, like he’s a kitten stuck in the wall. “Here baby, here baby, here baby. (Lip smack, tongue-click) Come on, it’s OK.”
Or something like that.
I worry that we won’t be able to put work down for our family. Right now, we’re both guilty of putting in extra hours, or answering email at odd times. There’s this idea that once a baby comes, it’ll all change, but habits are habits. We’re both guilty. I itch to check email and quick browse the web every night around 8:30 or 9PM. My wife has been off work for five days, but a day hasn’t passed during which she hasn’t visited school or answered email. I do believe she’ll be better about letting go than I will, if only because she’ll be more occupied.
